About the Leadership Programme

The first Adam Science Foundation Leadership Programme was held in 1992. Each year the course is revised to take account of the changing realities of the UK Jewish community, so that it truly reflects the training needs of the next generation of leaders.

Aims

The aim of the programme is for participants to develop an understanding of the key issues facing Jewish leaders today, whilst encouraging them to involve themselves in the work of a committee of their choice. Alumni of the programme have gone on to take up lay leadership positions within existing organisations or set up projects of their own. Some have even taken it a step further by deciding to work in the Jewish community full time.

Content

The ASFLP runs from October, starting with an introductory weekend and from then on, core sessions take place approximately once a month, either on weekday evenings or on Sundays. Core sessions cover many aspects of the British Jewish Community, from funding to lobbying, from Jewish identity to Jewish values. Sessions are given by key figures and top educators in the community.
Alongside this, participants are placed on a community lay committee or with a mentor. This is their chance to shadow senior leaders and get involved in the projects of a community organisation in the area in which they are most interested (e.g. education, fundraising, advocacy). Particpants also get the opportunity to participate in an international seminar, which looks at political and educational aspects of contemporary Jewry, allowing them to relate their findings to the situation in the UK.

Costs

The programme is sponsored by the ASF and the UJIA. Participants are asked to pay for flights to and from the international seminar and for one meal per day at the seminar.

The Pears Foundation contributes to the core costs of the Adam Science Foundation Leadership Programme and the Adam Science Foundation Alumni Network
