Magazines Exposed
With Mark Frith, editor of Time Out

Former editor of Smash Hits, Heat and Sky Magazine reveals how he survived the world of celebrity magazines and predicts what the future holds for the magazine industry.

Biography
Mark Frith's career in journalism began over 20 years ago editing the University of East London's Students Union paper, before joining Smash Hits in 1990 where he became editor of the magazine at the age of 23. He moved on to become editor of Sky Magazine before joining celebrity gossip magazine Heat in 1999 where he was made editor the following year. Mark is credited with the transformation of Heat, increasing sales from 50,000 to over half a million copies a week. Mark is currently editor at Time Out magazine in London.

Mark won every major British publishing award during his time at Heat, including PPA Editor of the Year twice and, in 2005, the BSME Mark Boxer Award for special achievement in UK magazine publishing. He also appears regularly on television programmes including BBC's Liquid News and The Apprentice: You're Fired.
