Israel Journey is a 5 month Gap Year option for 18-19 year olds run by UJIA Israel Experience. Israel Journey exposes participants to a wide range of experiences that enrich and transform their lives. These include:
• Experiencing the diversity of Israel -- the land, its people and culture through encounters with different communities in Israel and experiencing many different aspects of Israeli culture, society, history and geography.
• Gaining an understanding of the current issues in Israel and their context within the overall history of the Jewish people as well as an awareness of their connection to the land of Israel.
• Gaining independence, self-discipline and responsibility.
• Learning new skills.
• Having an opportunity to gain some kind of qualification or certificate of proficiency in a dynamic field of interest.
• Exposure to Jewish texts, practice, culture, and learning Hebrew.
The programme is subject to change, however in previous years has included the following:
- Orientation
- Group Shabbat
- Learning Hebrew
- Encounters with many different sections of Israeli society
- Excursions throughout Israel
- Culture seminars
- Volunteering
- Desert survival course
- Coexistence seminars
- Trip to Poland
- 2 month option period
- Scuba diving course in Eilat
- Technology courses
- Volunteer in the Israel Ambulance service (MDA)
- Medical clowning training
The programme is Masa approved and UJIA and Masa subsidies are available.
