Including Individuals

On 17th February 2009 UJIA JLEC hosted our first 'Including Individuals' seminar. This seminar explored issues around Inclusion, focussing on understanding and catering for young people with special educational needs and physical disabilities. Participants came away with increased levels of knowledge and essential practical hadracha (leadership) skills for their work with young people.

During the day, we explored our personal perceptions and prejudices, learned from our Jewish values and gained information on partiuclar special educational needs. There was also an introduction to current thinking in the wider field, including policy and best practice guidelines.

We were also fortunate to hear from a former Zionist youth movement member, sharing her experiences of being a young person in a wheelchair as a chanicha (participant) and madricha (youth leader). She spoke in glowing terms of her time in her youth movement and how accepted she felt. She also offered some tips and advice for current leaders about how to work with young people in wheelchairs.

Whilst we are unable to fully replicate the entire content of the training day - we want to make some of the resources available through this website.

You will find some of these available to download below.

If you would like any further support on this topic, to access more of the resources that were used on the day, a full copy of the information booklet, or to book training on this topic - please contact Naomi Russell
