UJIA supports Israel Youth Award

Shlomi, northern Israel.

Yesterday Shlomi a town in the Galil, northern Israel, hosted the Israel Youth Awards (IYA) "get together" for all their youth groups in the north who have participated in the IYA scheme.

UJIA, as a key partner, was invited to attend this event to attend and also address the gathering.

Youth volunteering forms a key strand in UJIA's support for education and for community development. Volunteering provides opportunities for young people to work together and make a contribution to their community while gaining a valuable insight into aspects of life that may not otherwise form part of their daily interaction.

The Shlomi Matnas Auditorium was full of excited young people, with each group taking to the stage to perform and express what that IYA had done for them and their community.

Ohad Davidow tells us, "For many of us, the Youth Award was much more than an after school programme or an extra-curricular activity. Even to this day, I can see the Youth Award around me. When I see people going out of their way to recycle, I see the Youth Award. When someone stops at the side of the road to offer someone else assistance, I see the Youth Award. When two teens get up on a bus to let an elderly couple sit down, I see the Youth Award. The Israel Youth Award is not just a program; it's a way of life.

UJIA believes that the Israel Youth Award is one of the best ways to empower young people, to enable them to recognise and fulfil their potential and achieve self-development and positive internal growth. All young people are eligible to participate, with no discrimination on grounds of gender, race, religion or political affiliation.
