Lord Levy visits summer camp

Over 320 participants attended at this year's JLGB Summer Camp. The theme of the camp was "Unite the World", and the children learned about a different country each day. They immersed themselves in its culture and travelled from "China to America, and from Israel to Nigeria". Evening entertainment included street dance, Chinese yoyos and an American Broadway night and other activities included all-terrain boarding, archery, abseiling, water sports. Members also took part in the search for a new "JLGB Apprentice".

Keeping with the theme of camp, the children were divided into 8 groups named after Nobel Peace Prize winners -- Theodore Roosevelt, Martin Luther King, Menachem Begin, Kofi Annan, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, Henry Kissinger and Nelson Mandela.

On the Thursday of camp, hundreds of parents and community guests attended the camp's Open Day. Brigade Commandant, Brigade Colonel Jill Attfield addressed leaders and volunteers who organised the camp and who had worked tirelessly through the year, saying: "The time and tremendous dedication you all have to the JLGB is truly remarkable, and I'm simply in awe of you all and the difference you make to so many young Jewish lives. Whether a Regimental Commander, a Battalion commander, a local company commander, an officer, warrant officer, unit assistant, a parent helper or you work at our head office -- you are all integral to the JLGB, with out you all the JLGB would simply grind to a halt - and I want to thank you all for everything you do."

The camp was also joined by 4 French children, 26 Israeli Scouts -- 2 from the Israel Youth Award (Israel's equivalent of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award),13 children from Sderot in Israel, and an adult volunteer from Canada.

The Guest of Honour the Brigade President, The Lord Levy, who addressed the children on parade and urged them to bring a friend to the next JLGB Camp. He said: "I intend to work with you all to double your numbers and do everything I can to get the community to support the wonderful work the JLGB is doing with Jewish youth".
