The start of the new campaign year was marked last Monday evening with UJIA's 'Leading the Leaders' Event, organised by the UJIA Leadership Development Steering Group.
The event was held at the homely Ivy House and offered a unique opportunity for key lay leaders in the organisation to meet with each other in an informal setting and exchange thoughts and ideas on ways of improving the effectiveness of our leadership roles within UJIA.
The evening opened with a light buffet supper and a chance for guests to network with other lay leaders as well as professional staff working across the organisation. This was followed by presentations from Chairman, Mick Davis, Chief Executive, Doug Krikler and James Libson, Trustee and Chair of Leadership Development Steering Group which highlighted UJIA's current strategic objectives, expressing the value of having motivated committees and efficient working relationships between committee members and their professionals.
The central piece of the evening was the smaller group discussion sessions. This provided an effective arena for lay leaders and professionals to discuss one of three topics regarding committee management.
Participants brought with them a diverse range of expertise and experience which was employed to identify pressing challenges and highlight ways to overcome and improve the running of the committees. Areas of discussion were 'Top Tips For Running A Committee', 'Ongoing Challenges For Chairs' and 'Succession Planning'.
The event closed with presentations given on the latest UJIA projects, firstly myfund, UJIA's Teen Philanthropy project, by Dr Helena Miller, Director or Research and Evaluation followed by an Israel programme update from Dr David Janner-Klausner, Programme and Planning Director.
'Leading The Leaders' proved to be both successful and informative. It will help to play a vital role in improving the way in which lay committees are managed, hence helping to secure a more productive future for UJIA.
