Pupils in Year 6 at North Cheshire Jewish Primary School are keeping in touch by letter with their UJIA "twins" at Nof Galil School in Kibbutz Far-Od in the Merom Hagalil area of northern Israel.
The children at North Cheshire are writing letters in Ivrit and are eagerly awaiting those from the children at Nof Galil who are reciprocating by writing theirs in English. This way they will both improve their language skills and strengthen the "Living Bridge" between the pupils in the two schools. Next term each class will put together a book of photographs and written pieces about each pupil to send to their partnership school.
These activities are part of the on-going Manchester UJIA School-to School twinning project, now in its 4th year.
Manchester UJIA UK Programmes Director Sally Halon said "It is vital to keep the links going between the two schools, especially in advance of the parent-pupil delegation which is coming to North Cheshire from Nof Galil in May 2009. This way the British children will meet some of their pen friends and know a little bit about each other before they arrive."
We're beind the 'Living Bridge'
UJIA's link with the Galil and the people of Israel is about more than money. UJIA is the main facilitator of people-to-people contact between the UK Jewish community and the people of Israel, through young educational tours and exchange schemes.
