Over 120 people enjoyed a gala dinner on Thursday 4 December held in the magnificent surroundings of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, Lauderdale Road.
The occasion - part of Israel at 60 - marked the incredible life and philanthropy of Sir Moses Montefiore and Haham Moses Gaster - whose granddaughter was also present.
The dinner was hosted by Rabbi Dr Abraham Levy and addresses were made by the Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks, HE Ron Proser and UJIA Chairman Mick Davis.
The presence of Lord and Countess Balfour, was especially poignant with Lord Balfour giving the toast to Israel.
Guests also had an opportunity to look at unique and beautiful fabrics and rare manuscripts, set up especially for the occasion by Lucian Gubbay.
It was a joyous occasion and one with which UJIA was proud to be involved.
