Rabbi Fishel Cohen, Chaplain to Midlands's students together with his wife Mrs Esther Cohen, organises a series of Monday night Educational events for students. Recently they held a Pre-Chanukah and Doughnut Evening in their home.
More than 80 Students flocked to their house to enjoy hot latkes and freshly fried doughnuts. The evening was opened by Mrs Cohen who spoke about the message of Chanukah being to bring light into a sometimes dark world. The guest speaker was Mick Davis, Chairman of UJIA.
His talk was entitled "The Credit Crunch: Is it a Jewish Problem?" in which he explained the cause of the "Credit crisis" and its implications, he also spoke about the work of UJIA. This was followed by a lively question and answers session during which the students quizzed Mr Davis about the likely affect of the financial crisis on UJIA and its work.
Rabbi Cohen summed it up as "A very warm and informative evening, the students went home not only with full stomachs and minds, but also with assurances that UJIA support for Israel trips and other crucial educational programmes was safe for the next few years."
