UJIA JLEC Leadership Course for 6th Form Students

UJIA Jewish Life Education Centre ran an eight week course for 6th form students at Yavneh College exploring aspects of leadership from a theoretical and practical perspective. The aim of the course was to prepare the sixth formers to lead residential Shabbat experiences for the Year 7 and year 8 students. Yavneh College, in partnership with UJIA, has created a cadre of young leaders within their school community which we will continue to support and develop.

Shelley Marsh, Director of Informal Jewish Education said, "UJIA Jewish Life Education Centre educators spend much of their time working with young people in the Jewish youth club and youth movement sector. The UJIA JAMS project also facilitates activities for young Jewish people in non-Jewish, empowering them to get involved in Jewish assemblies and lunch time events. Our aim in facilitating a leadership course for the sixth formers at Yavneh College was to ensure that Jewish informal education can be utilised by all young Jewish people, whatever the setting, formal or informal. In partnership with the staff at Yavneh College, UJIA JLEC gave the sixth formers the tools to lead within their own school community. The course included sessions such as 'being an example to others', 'team work', 'listening skills' and 'community development'. These are key skills for the way young people to learn and through this work UJIA is ensuring that we are developing the leaders of the wider Jewish community."
