Three heads are better than none...

UJIA School to School twinning project continues to expand, exceeding all original expectations when it was launched 5 years ago.

On Succot, North Cheshire Jewish Primary School Head Jackie Savage hosted a fact-finding visit from Lenna Rosenberg, Head teacher of Clore Tikvah Jewish Primary School in London and from Gila Mickel, Head Teacher of their 'twinned' school in Israel, the Kerner School in Meona, in the Northern Galil.

The Israeli teachers were in the UK as part of a teachers' delegation visiting their partnership school and came to Manchester to share best practice, learning from each other's experiences and sharing ideas as to how to take their partnerships forward. The in school co-ordinators from all three schools also participated in the discussions.

North Cheshire and Clore Tikvah Schools are unique in that they are the only primary schools in the UK who are participating in the UJIA School to School 'twinning' programme.

There are plans for members of North Cheshire's Year 6 to visit Clore Tikvah School when they are on their annual trip to London next summer, and for Jackie Savage to visit the Kerner School when she is in Israel in December as part of a North Cheshire teachers' delegation to Nof Galil School.

While they were in the school, Mrs Rosenberg and Mrs Mickel acted as judges in the North Cheshire model sukkah-making competition and are pictured with the winners.

Sally Halon. Manchester UJIA UK Programme Director said, "The connections within this programme are spreading far and wide in the UK and in Israel. Sharing best practice and forming new relationships is what UJIA School to School 'twinning' is all about."

UJIA coordinates the 'twinning' of schools in our partnership region, the Galil northern Israel, with schools in the UK.
Visits from Israeli schools to the UK and vice-versa allow pupils, families and staff to genuinely encounter each other's lives.
The exposure that British Jews have to Israel greatly deepens their connection to the land and people.
Equally as importantly, the contact with British Jews, has a major impact on how the Israelis understand Judaism, Diaspora and the centrality of Israel to the Jewish people.
