UJIA JAMS Plays Key Role In MGS Founders' Day

UJIA JAMS is best known for the running of quality programming, Jewish assemblies and lunchtime J-Socs in mainstream secondary schools. However in Manchester, UJIA JAMS has taken this up a level.

UJIA JAMS has for the first time played a key role in providing a lead speaker in Manchester Grammar School's Annual Founders' Day service for Jewish boys. Rabbi Amir Ellituv led the service, together with a group of sixth formers. The event, which was held in the Manchester Jewish Students' Centre (formerly Wilbraham Road Synagogue), was attended by approximately 100 boys, as well as Dr Ray, the High Master, Mr Leeming the Surmaster, and Jewish Society teacher representative Simon Hunt. The service paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of the many founders and current supporters of the school as well as highlighting the respect held for the past and present Jewish pupils.

Rabbi Ellituv spoke about the acceptance and respect for all religions and their practices which exists in Manchester Grammar School and the boys' responsibility as Jews in a public environment.

Max Braslavsky, Head of MGS J-Soc said 'I am so privileged to be the chairman of such an important society which plays such a vital role in the continuity of Jewish life in school'.

Sarah Brodie, UJIA JAMS Manchester Coordinator endorsed Max's comment and added 'It was a privilege for UJIA JAMS to be invited by Mr Hunt of MGS to help organise this prestigious event. I was glad I could be present and meet so many more of the Jewish boys who attend MGS. The service ran smoothly and Rabbi Ellituv spoke beautifully.'
