Ealing raises over £20,000 for school in north of Israel

Guests enjoy lecture from Middle East expert, Prof Asher Susser

Members of Ealing United and Ealing Liberal Synagogues raised £23,000 for UJIA to help build a new cross-communal high school in the Israeli town of Shlomi. Over 50 guests attended the community's annual dinner on Sunday 28 February 2010 which included a lecture by guest speaker, Professor Asher Susser, about the future of Israel in the Middle East of the 21st Century.

The funds raised for UJIA will be used to build a classroom at the new school in Shlomi, a development town just near the Lebanon border. As well as being the community's first ever secondary school, Shlomi High School is unique because it acts as a bridge between religious and secular Israelis.

After Professor Susser's lecture, Zac Gazit and David Janner-Klausner from UJIA gave guests an update on progress at the school campus which is due to open in September 2010. In 2009, Ealing raised £60,000 for a new science laboratory at the school.
