New London Synagogue raises over £60,000 for school in the north of Israel

Members of the New London Synagogue raised over £60,000 for the new cross-communal Shlomi High School in the north of Israel. Over 70 people attended the synagogue's annual dinner held in St John's Wood in northwest London on Wednesday 25 May 2010.

Attendees heard guest speaker, Daniel Finkelstein, executive editor of The Times, share his personal insights into current affairs and politics, including the results of the recent UK elections.

The money raised will go towards the community's target of funding an entire floor at the new high school in the Israeli border town of Shlomi, building classrooms and laboratories for the children of this vulnerable border town. This cross-communal school is a historic first for the Galil, bringing together religious and secular pupils - and finally giving the community its very own high school.
