British musical icon, Lulu, was the star of the show at the annual UJIA Women's Brunch which attracted over 250 women to London's Saatchi Gallery on Thursday 27 May. Guests raised £100,000 to support UJIA's work for young people and education in the UK and northern Israel's Galil region.
Lulu entertained guests with renditions of her favourite numbers, including a rousing version of Shout, where she got the entire gallery singing. Lulu spoke to health and beauty expert, Jo Fairley, about her career in showbiz, as well as sharing her personal secrets for looking good and feeling great. Jo has been beauty editor of YOU Magazine and co-founded the delicious organic chocolate company, Green & Black's, with her husband, Craig Sams.
Guests were treated to an exclusive tour of the Saatchi Gallery's new collection, Newspeak: British Art Now, and there was a special raffle with prizes including two paintings by Leila Pissarro and a handmade glass bowl from Bob Crook.
Karen Harris, chair of the UJIA Women's Committee, said:
"Every year we try to develop a creative event that's different from the norm. Following last year's success with Joanna Lumley at Westfield shopping centre, we thought that Lulu at the Saatchi Gallery would be just as innovative. I am delighted that it was successful and that so many women came out to support UJIA's work in Israel and here in the UK."
