Conservative MP Richard Harrington stressed the importance of linking business and charity before a packed audience of young businesspeople at the House of Commons on Monday 11 October 2010. The event, A Not So Common Business Network, saw the launch of the Young UJIA Business Forum's new committee and campaign and was attended by over 130 guests.
The Member of Parliament for Watford recalled his experiences from trips to Israel where he visited UJIA-funded educational projects in the Galil and saw how they are helping to regenerate deprived communities. He told the audience:
"Business and charity always go together. As capable business people we have a responsibility to give to charity ourselves."
The Young UJIA Business Forum brings together young people from across the business world to support UJIA's work for young people and education, whilst connecting its members through a series of events and seminars.
Alex Waiman, Chair of the Young UJIA Business Forum, said:
"The House of Commons was the perfect venue to kickstart the Business Forum's new campaign. With an exciting programme of events for the young business community planned for the year ahead, we hope to make the connection between business and philanthropy event stronger."
