This term's award is being shared three-ways by Tzofim (Israel Scouts): Tamar Mazursky, Tom Sabban and Tehila Shami-Kurz who have been speaking at schools across the UK as part of the UJIA Jewish Activities in Mainstream Schools (JAMS) programme. Tehila is a Shlicha (emissary) and the Director of Tzofim in Western Europe, a programme which began in 2009. She opened the London branch of Tzofim in Golders Green which offers weekly activities for Israelis and Hebrew-speakers aged 8-18. She is currently working on opening new branches in the UK and the Netherlands.
Eighteen year-olds Tom and Tamar are spending their Shnat-Sherut (gap year) with the Israel Scouts Branch in London and UJIA's Living Bridge Department volunteering with Israeli and British children and teenagers. Their sessions and assemblies about life in Israel have gone down a storm at schools across the country.
Here's what Tom and Tamar have to say about their time so far:
"UJIA JAMS has given us the opportunity to visit schools and meet British students. We have met some wonderful J-Soc chairs who are doing great work and really impressed us with their leadership and events. One highlight was our visit to North London Collegiate School where we ran an assembly for 150 Jewish girls and spoke about life as Israelis and shared our hopes and expectations. It was lovely to hear questions from the students, which made for an interesting discussion. We love JAMS!"
UJIA would like to wish Tehila, Tom and Tamar every success during their stay in the UK
