UJIA meets Menorah Synagogue

Manchester UJIA UK Programmes Director Sally Halon, together with the new Jewish Agency shaliach for Manchester UJIA, Eyal Goldman, gave a talk to members of Menorah Synagogue's ARK adult education programme on Sunday 27 February 2011.

Sally Halon described progress at UJIA-funded projects in Israel including the recently opened Lord Steinberg Hemed Torani-Environmental School in Merom HaGalil, the cross-communal Esfandi-Isaacs ORT High School in Shlomi and the soon-to-be-opened Social Science Faculty at Tel Hai Academic College near Kiryat Shmona. She also talked about UJIA Living Bridge Programmes including the expanding School to School Partnership scheme and the Ethiopian Bar-Bat Mitzvah Club which was recently established at the Hub in Altrincham.

Eyal Goldman talked about the challenges faced by people living in UJIA's partnership region, the Galil, in northern Israel, and the Ayalim programme in Akko which aims to educate Jewish and Arab youth with computer skills and also foster good inter-community relations.

Menorah Synagogue will also be hosting the UJIA Magic Moments delegation which is coming to Manchester in May to commemorate Yom Hazikaron and celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut with a special event at the synagogue on Monday 9 May.
