Award-winning scientist and television presenter, Lord Professor Winston, spoke about the influence of Judaism on his life and career at the UJIA Scotland Annual Dinner on Monday 7 March 2011. Over 250 guests from across the Glasgow Jewish community came to the sell-out event at the Giffnock Synagogue Banqueting Suite which raised funds towards UJIA's educational programmes in the UK and northern Israel.
Speaking to Scottish broadcaster, Alan Douglas, Professor Lord Winston talked about Jewish ethics and his views on the future of science, as well as answering questions from the audience. Lord Winston, Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College, has earned a reputation as a world-leader in human reproduction and genetics. In addition to his career in medicine, he has worked as a theatre director and presented BBC TV series' including The Story of God, Walking with Cavemen and the BAFTA award-winning The Human Body.
Richard Pinder and Ashley Gold, Co-Chairs, UJIA Scotland Campaign, said:
