Girls harness the power of social networks

Students at Bury Grammar School for Girls learned about the power of social networking at an educational session from UJIA JAMS (Jewish Activities in Mainstream Schools) on Wednesday 9 March 2011.

Eyal Goldman, the new Jewish Agency shaliach for UJIA Manchester, discussed topic of 'The power is in our hands' with the school's J-Soc, explaining that today's young people possess the power to change the way we live and do things in our community. To harness this new technology, UJIA has just recently started sharing news about its work as well as information on Israel on Twitter @UJIAcharity and Facebook (UJIA Charity). Eyal said:

"Everyone has a mobile phone or Facebook account, but many of us take these things for granted. In other countries people are using these technologies to create social change, like the revolutions in the Middle East. We should remember that we can use these tools ourselves to a create positive change in our own community - the power is in our hands!"

Natasha Stoops, Chair, Bury Grammar School for Girls J-Soc, commented:

"The session was a real eye-opener, as we often don't realise how lucky we are living in the UK. Sometimes we complain about our daily lives, but there are people out there who have experienced things that we could never dream of. Eyal was really interesting and we are looking forward to his next session at our school."
