The community in Leeds had the pleasure of hosting Tom Sabban and Tamar Mazoursky from Tzofim - the Israel Scouts movement - who are spending their Shnat-Sherut (gap year) with the Israel Scouts Branch in London and UJIA's Living Bridge Department.
Arriving in the morning, Tom and Tamar went straight to Allerton High School where they led a Jewish assembly for Years 7 and 8. They ran an interactive session on Jewish festivals, learning about Purim and the other festivals in the Jewish calendar. They then visited residents at Skyte House, part of the Leeds Jewish Housing Association, where they met many of the older residents. The residents were fascinated to hear about what life is like for a young person in Israel, as well as learning what the two young Israelis are doing in Britain. In the evening, Tom and Tamar led the 61st Leeds Girl Guides' meeting, attended by 20 girls attended and they took charge of the evening programming the session from beginning to end, with games and activities giving an insight into Israeli life. The following morning they took part in a Jewish assembly for Years 11 and upwards at The Grammar School at Leeds. After a quick tour of Leeds Museum, it was back on the train to London after a hectic, but enjoyable, two-day visit.
