Outgoing diplomat Ron Prosor praises UJIA and Anglo-Jewry
UJIA led the community in bidding a fond farewell to outgoing Israeli Ambassador to the UK, Ron Prosor, on Sunday 8 May 2011. Over 150 leading figures attended a reception at the Royal College of Physicians to mark the Ambassador's three and a half years in UK before he departs for New York to become Israel's envoy to the United Nations.
On the night, Ron Prosor spoke about the challenges of his time in Britain and praised UJIA for bringing Israel and the UK Jewish community closer together. He told the audience:
"The work of the UJIA is nothing short of an inspiration. I have seen with my own eyes your projects in the north of Israel. I have seen land blackened by war in 2006 transformed into state of the art schools and educational facilities, boosting opportunities for all the citizens of the Galil.
"Now more than ever it is vital we celebrate who we are, what we believe in and what the State of Israel represents. We must give young British Jews the tools to say unequivocally, passionately and courageously that we are proud. Proud to be Jewish, proud to be Zionists and proud of the centrality of Israel to our identity."
