Over 130 sports fans from across Manchester put their boots on for the 11th annual UJIA Fuzion football tournament on Bank Holiday Monday 30 May 2011.
The JDate-sponsored event pulled in players from across the Jewish religious spectrum who battled it out on the pitch at Manchester's Powerleague Soccerdome for the prestigious trophy. But the biggest win of the day was the £8,100 that the players and supporters raised for UJIA which will go to support the charity's educational programmes for young people across the UK and in northern Israel.
The competition-winners were:
• Trophy Final Winners: DFC (sponsored by 151 Products), who beat Eggysoldiers (sponsored by Celia Clyne banqueting)
• Player of the Tournament: Michael Stratton
• Plate Final Winners: Manchester Mafia (sponsored by Comfy Quilts) who beat last year's winners, Henry's Heroes (sponsored by D&P Data Systems).
Kimberley Bancroft, UJIA Campaign Administration Officer, commented:
"The tournament was a great success and it was wonderful watching so many participants from across the Jewish community come together and have fun whilst raising money for charity. I would like to thank our all of our sponsors for their generous support and look forward to working with them again next year."
And here's what the players had to say...
"After another thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, DFC managed to win the UJIA Fuzion competition. It was as enjoyable as ever and we can't wait to defend next year." Toby Levy, captain of the winning team, DFC.
"The tournament was a great event and the best team won on the day!" Michael Stratton, Player of the Tournament.
