Leeds' leaders plan for the future

The UJIA Leeds Lay Leadership Course held its fourth session in June 2011 with David Janner-Klausner, UJIA's Director of Programming and Planning, who gave the keynote presentation on strategic planning.

The group listened intensely on how to develop a strategic plan, this was developed further by UJIA's Fundraising Manager, David Israel, who gave the background into why the decision by the Leeds Jewish community to carry out its own strategic plan which was published in 2006. David Israel commented that many of the findings of the report have been put into action, listened to and refined, including the appointment of a Leeds Development Executive who was appointed through the Representative Council in 2010.

The second part of the session saw two members of the first lay leadership course, Raina Sheaf and Alan Dunwell, give presentations regarding their own strategic plans for the Zone youth centre and Brodetsky School campus. Both made the point that being on the leadership course and discussing strategy and strategic plans had a positive affect on their own strategic plans for their respective organisations.

Howard Foreman, UJIA's Regional Director, commented:

"The future of the Leeds Jewish community is in good hands and it is no coincidence that UJIA is playing its part through programmes such as the lay leadership course. It is not only about training leaders for tomorrow, it's also about training lay leaders for today. It is so pleasing to see leaders coming through and taking responsibility for their community."
