Ethiopian Bar and Bat Mitzvah twinning programme - Latest twinning correspondence

Both the club twins and individual twins correspond through letters and photographs. This helps to build their relationships and learn more about each other's lives. Take a look at some of the charming letters from our participants.

This month: Gavinash has written to Libby in Manchester about their blossoming friendship, Adele and the Jewish festivals.

Hi Libby

Thank you for you lovely and detailed letter.

I am so lucky to have a new friend from another country. When I read your letters I understand that although we live in different places, we are not so different from each other. I think that it is amazing that because of the reason that both of us Jewish, we will meet each other during our common party and we will share this important ceremony-a ceremony that every Jewish girl is celebrating when she becomes 12.

In my town there are few museums and lots of old synagogues so there are many tourists here. The weather this year was wry cold and wet- I even saw snow for the first time in my life! It was amazing.

I think that it is really good that your mother speaks Hebrew to you - it will be great if we will be able to communicate in Hebrew between us, especially since my English is not good enough yet.

I also think that it is better to learn in girls only class. When I was in a Kelet class (a special class for new immigrants) it was a lot better to learn without the boys. I am in the 6th grade now and the boys in my class can be very annoying...

I also like Adele - she is amazing! What is your favorite song?

Recently we celebrated Purim. In Israel Purim is a crazy holiday- we had many parties, activities- Purim market and competitions with prizes. We went to Shul to hear the Megila and it was very exciting. We also went to a big parade in town. I dressed up as Esther the queen. How did you celebrate? Did you dress up?

Soon we will be celebrating Pesach and I am really excited- I love the Seder night. How are you celebrating?

I can't wait to meet you in the summer! Can't wait to celebrate our Bat mitzvah!

Please write back soon

Your friend
