Around 6,000 chanichim (participants, aged 10-15) are enjoying two weeks away from their every-day experiences at Jewish youth movement camps which are situated all over the country. All participants have been under the watchful eye of madrichim (group leaders) who have benefited from training facilitated by UJIA in partnership with the Jewish Youth Movements.

Teen philanthropists pledge an extra 50% to charity
Jewish teenagers boosted their commitment to good causes by pledging an extra 50% to charities this week. The second UJIA myfund Givers' Evening and Charity Fair saw participants on the scheme pledge £1,265 of savings from their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs to a range of charities - over £400 more than at last year's event.

Hebrew gets a boost in Britain
Modern Hebrew got a major boost last week at the UK's biggest ever conference on teaching the language. Over 100 educators from 31 schools from across the country took part in the one-day event run by the Jewish Curriculum Partnership (JCP), an initiative funded by UJIA to transform Jewish day school provision in the UK.

Conference raises the bar on research
Over 120 educators, academics and students took part in the UK's biggest gathering on Jewish education research. The second UJIA Conference on Research in Jewish Education surpassed the success of last year's inaugural event by launching The International Handbook of Jewish Education, the first book if its kind to be headed by a British academic.

UJIA led the community in bidding a fond farewell to outgoing Israeli Ambassador to the UK, Ron Prosor. Over 150 leading figures attended a reception at the Royal College of Physicians to mark the Ambassador's three and a half years in UK before he departs for New York to become Israel's envoy to the United Nations.

Following four days of intensive efforts to control the blaze, the forest fires in the Carmel region of northern Israel have now been fully extinguished. Jewish education gets a boost in Liverpool
Jewish education in Merseyside was given a major boost when UJIA agreed to support the Liverpool Jewish Resource Centre over the next two years. The funds will go towards providing books and teaching resources for the centre, running tours of local synagogues, as well as a new project to create a digital library of Jewish music.

Twenty two British families travelled to Israel to celebrate becoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah with their Ethiopian "twins". Participants in the UJIA Ethiopian Bar/Bat Mitzvah Programme joined 40 Ethiopian families and over 300 guests for an emotional ceremony in Jerusalem where the children were blessed by the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, Yona Metzger.

Ealing raises over £20,000 for school in north of Israel
Members of Ealing United and Ealing Liberal Synagogues raised £23,000 for UJIA to help build a new pluralistic high school in northern Israel.
