UJIA Honours 60 Years

UJIA, as part of its Israel 60 celebrations, held a special UJIA Diamond Awards Ceremony and Dinner on Monday 18 February 2008.

The ceremony which was hosted by HE Ron Prosor, Ambassador of Israel, at his private residence, together with UJIA, honoured key members of the British Jewish community who have dedicated 60 years of their lives or more to providing outstanding and loyal support to the People and the State of Israel since its establishment.

This exclusive gathering gave UJIA the opportunity to present each recipient with a special certificate together with a personally signed photograph from Mr. Shimon Peres, the President of the State of Israel who gave thanks and appreciation for their loyalty to Israel.

Twenty awards were given at the event; and a further 10 will be sent in honour of recipients who were unable to attend.

Speakers included UJIA Chairman Mick Davis and HE Ron Prosor as well as impromptu short speeches from recipients who felt overwhelmed and wanted to share their joy and pride in Israel.

Award recipient Denis Cohen commented, "The evening was something special and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment, but truly feel, from my heart, that recognition and thanks should only go to Israel."

UJIA Fundraiser, Nicola Nathan comments, "The evening was about honouring those who have given both financial and personal time contributions to Israel. As one of the largest Anglo-Israeli charities we are proud to be honouring these individuals. They are an inspiration to future generations of young Jewish people. The evening was a wonderful way to mark Israel's 60th anniversary and to mark 60 years of Diaspora giving."
