JAMMING Newsletter
Issue 3, January 2011

Welcome to the third edition of the UJIA JAMS (Jewish Activities in Mainstream Schools) newsletter, JAMMING. This issue is packed full of the latest news on what we've been up to over the past term. A big thank you is due to everyone who contributed and if you would like to have your say in the next edition, please contact shelley.harrod@ujia.org.

UJIA JAMS - We're at a school near you...

UJIA JAMS has had an action-packed few months, bringing Jewish learning to life at schools up and down the country. We had a busy end to 2010, running Chanukah sessions for pupils in 14 schools about the meaning of the festival, whilst consuming 975 donuts in the process... Take a look at our webpage to see what your J-Soc has been up to (you might even find a picture of yourself up there too).

First ever JAMSlam is a huge success

Over 85 teenagers from London, Essex, Surrey and beyond helped to make the first ever JAMSlam a huge success. Participants at the all-day conference heard top speakers including Lord Janner who discussed what it means to be a leader in a non-Jewish world. Other sessions included Judge Jeffrey Bryer talking about lawmaking and lawbreaking, as well as Limmud founder, Clive Lawton, discussing 'What should young Jews know?' Read more.

Speaker(s) of the term: Tzofim

This term's award is being shared three-ways by Tzofim (Israel Scouts): Tamar Mazursky, Tom Sabban and Tehila Shami-Kurz. Tehila is the Tzofim shlicha (emissary) and director in Western Europe, whilst Tamar (pictured left) and Tom (centre) are spending their gap year in the UK volunteering with Tzofim and UJIA. Their sessions and assemblies about life in Israel have gone down a storm at schools across the country. Read more.
