The Yoni Jesner Award Scheme is an award scheme that was set up in Immanuel College in conjunction with the Yoni Jesner Foundation in September 2006 named for Yoni Jesner. It is now a flagship programme of UJIA's social responsibility department working in partnership with JVN and seven Jewish high schools.
Yoni was a student youth leader who was tragically killed in a bus bomb in Tel Aviv in September 2002. Yoni was committed to encouraging young people to do as many acts of loving-kindness as possible. He was an inspirational role model for many young people.
Overall Aim of the Scheme
To encourage as many young Jewish students to involve themselves in volunteering projects as part of their Jewish journey
To create a community wide award scheme with an annual award ceremony for all participants
To encourage students to continue with their volunteering beyond this award scheme
The Concept
Within the chosen setting: school; youth movement; synagogue youth group, young people aged 12-13 will be encouraged to complete twenty hours of volunteering within and outside of the Jewish Community throughout the academic year:
